A suspected thief has been nabbed for allegedly stealing a mattress in Nkubu, Imenti of Meru County.
It was gathered that the suspect was caught by members of the community after he broke into a home and stole the mattress while the owner was inside.
“Around 2:00 a.m., he jumped over the gate and stole a mattress. When he saw me, he hurriedly tossed the mattress outside the gate, jumped over, and ran away. I attempted to catch up with him, but he eluded me. I contacted my neighbors and asked them to assist me in locating him. We found him sleeping on the mattress in a corridor. We used a rope to bind his hands and legs,” Julius said.

According to Gilbert, some of the suspects wander around, entering homes and claiming to be lost. He said others claim to be looking for work as part of a mission to mark their target.
“I’ve lived in Nkubu since 2018, and I’ve seen a wide range of theft suspects. In one case, a suspect claiming to be looking for work fled when he was asked to provide identification documents. Because they do not want to get tired, the youth prefer white-collar jobs to manual jobs,” Gilbert said.
Gibert urged Nkubu residents to exercise extreme caution when encountering visitors.
