Images of destruction and death come from the Ryazan province in Russia after an explosion at the PGUP Elastic ammunition factory. The media reports that there are 16 dead.
The TASS news agency cites the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which confirms 12 deaths, while reporting that four people are still missing.
As you can see in the photos and videos, firefighters have arrived at the scene and are trying to put out the fire caused by the explosion.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that an investigation is underway into whether the accident was caused by “violations of technological procedures and safety measures” at the plant, which is located about 300 kilometers from Moscow.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations adds that the explosion took place at around 08:22 local time, while 170 rescuers remain on the spot.
