The death toll from lightning strikes is unfortunately not uncommon in monsoon-era India, which runs from June to September.

At least 38 people have been killed in two Indian states  that have been hit hard by torrential rains and torrential rains in recent months .

According to Jaipur police , among the 11 people killed in the Indian city were some who tried to take a selfie near an observatory at the historic 12th-century Amber Fort .

Nine more people were killed and nearly 20 were injured by lightning in various incidents in the state of Rajasthan during the last wave of bad weather, according to the Guardian.

Uttar Pradesh , 18 people were killed by lightning on Sunday, according to a government official, bringing the tragic toll of the monsoons in both states to 38 dead. Most of the people killed in Uttar Pradesh were farmers in the fields when they were hit.

The governments of both states announced that financial assistance will be provided to the families of the victims and to those who were injured by lightning. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Agency of India warned that the intense phenomena will continue for the next two days.

Death from lightning strikes is unfortunately not uncommon in India during the monsoon season, which runs from June to September. More than 2,900 people were killed by lightning in the country in 2019, according to the latest available data.
