Big fire under control

One hundred firefighters had to intervene today to put out a fire in London, which evacuated a train and metro station in the British capital, according to rescue services.

The fire, which also led to the evacuation of nearby buildings, was brought under control in the afternoon local time, firefighters said.

According to London Mayor Sadiq Khan, a police officer and a civilian received first aid from rescuers as they “inhaled smoke”.

Three commercial vehicles, located below the railway line near Elephant & Castle station, were set on fire, as were six vehicles and a telephone booth, the fire service said on Twitter, urging citizens to evacuate the area and close their windows.

Among the videos posted on Twitter by the London Fire Department is one where an impressive explosion is recorded.

“The incident is not considered terrorist in nature,” said London police, who have closed several roads.

According to the traffic police, the station was evacuated and the trains do not stop.

According to the National Rail network, cancellations and delays are expected on the routes until tonight.
