A child has drowned in a dam in Ndumuru village in Igembe
It’s understood, a child went to the dam to fetch water when the barrel was blown away by the wind and drowned in attempt to pursue it.
“I arrived ten minutes after the child had drowned. When I called the OCS, he said he’d inform the DCC. After ten minutes, I called the DCC, who assured me that the incident would be resolved,” said an eyewitness.
I later called Maoke Maore’s personal assistant, who informed me that the incident is under the jurisdiction of the county government and that we should notify them.
“I contacted the MCA, who said that he would follow up on the matter the next day. What irritates me is that a child drowned and no one responded,” said an eyewitness.
According to an eyewitness, Chief Rumano was unconcerned and did not respond. she said three members of the community have drowned in the dam.
A resident urged the government to build a fence around the dam. Another resident said that the dam should be completely drained because it endangered the lives of the residents.
The diver who retrieved the body from the dam opposed the idea of destroying the dam because animals rely on it.
“My suggestion is that the bereaved family be compensated. I implore the government to provide at least two divers at the dam.,” he said .
He said that the dam did not endanger people’s lives because no one was compelled to fetch water from it.
