A detective attached to the Director Of Investigations (DCI)  is nursing rib injuries after he got shot by an AK-47 inside a speeding police Subaru on Friday 12th, November.

Police Constable Evans Kilonzo was on Friday rushed to the hospital after his left ribs were injured in an unfortunate incident that occurred at the Miti Moja area in Eldoret Uasi Ngishu County.

The AK-47 rifle, which was in the boot of the Subaru Forester KBJK 99J the officer was travelling in, discharged a bullet after the vehicle hit a bump at high speed.

According to police reports, the dislodged bullet brushed through Police Constable Evans Kilonzo’s left rib who was in the company of his colleagues on routine patrol when the incident happened.

“The officer sustained a slight injury on the left ribs as the bullet passed through the tissue but did not enter the chest cavity,” reads the police report.

Kilonzo is nursing the gunshot wound at the Eldoret Memorial Hospital. Doctors informed the police that their colleague was in a stable condition.

This incident came in a few days after a police officer attached to Parklands Police Station accidentally shot himself as he was in the process of arresting a criminal.

Detective Luke Juma was in the process of pursuing a dangerous criminal identified as Philip Mumyasia who was reported to have terrorized city residents.

“The suspect had taken flight when he spotted the detective coming for him, prompting a chase that left traders along Lunga Lunga Road in Nairobi’s Industrial area, dismayed,” the statement reads.

“Finally, after about 400 metres, Juma caught up with the suspect, who was panting uncontrollably, struggling to catch a breath. He immediately pinned him to the ground, and as they rolled with Juma struggling to handcuff Munyasia, he accidentally discharged one round from his Ceska pistol holstered on his waist,” the police narrated.
