Four civilians, including a child, killed by regime fire - Watch video

A woman killed in a neighborhood, a child with her father, and another man –  This is the first such civilian bombing in   Idlib in the last 10 months

The regime’s artillery fire killed four civilians , including a child, in the city of Idlib, the last stronghold of rebels and jihadists in Syria , the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday .

This is the first such deadly bombing of civilians in this city in the northwestern part of the country in the last 10 months, according to the non-governmental organization, which relies on a wide network of sources in Syria.

A bomb blast near the Iraqi capital, Damascus, has killed at least one woman. A senior university official and his son, as well as another man, were also killed when artillery fire fell near a swimming pool on the outskirts of the provincial capital, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

An AFP correspondent in Idlib saw rescue workers and civilians transporting the young woman’s body from her home to an ambulance, while disturbed locals fled for fear of more artillery fire.

About 3 million people live in Idlib province, two-thirds of whom are residents of other areas displaced by the war, which has lasted more than a decade.

The jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al- Sam , the former al Qaeda affiliate in Syria, and its allies control half of the province, including its capital, as well as parts of neighboring provinces.

A ceasefire has been in place in the region since March 2020, following a large-scale three-month operation by the regime that displaced about one million people , according to the UN.

Despite repeated violations, the ceasefire has generally been maintained, but since June, regime forces have intensified their bombardment of the southern part of the province.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was sworn in in July and took up a new term, promising that “liberating the remaining parts of the country” would be his top priority.

The extremely complicated war in Syria, which erupted in March 2011 sparking the crackdown on democratization-driven demonstrations, has since claimed the lives of more than half a million people and forced millions more to flee their homes, turning them into insiders. displaced persons and refugees.
