Residents in Ribui in Buuri have accused their MCA of doing a shoddy job and delaying construction works, thus causing them inconveniences.
The construction of the road started a long time even though residents say they were promised it would be completed in a short time.
Up to date, the job is nowhere nearing completion, adding that they have also been kept in the dark over the project.
The residents want the county government to intervene and clarify why the project stalled, erection of beacons, and ensure quality work is done without delays.
“I’m sad because the MCA started a road repair project that was never finished, causing us a lot of pain. My parents are finding it difficult to walk on large Pavel stones because the road has not been ground,” said Gikundi, a resident.
“The MCA is to blame because he never returned after bringing tractors to repair the road when the project stalled. We were informed that we would have to wait even longer for the road construction to be completed.
“When we harvested maize, we found it difficult to transport it to the market because the road had become overgrown with weeds.
“We have planted again, but we are concerned that goats will infiltrate farms now that the boundaries have been removed. We urge the MCA to install a chain link while the road is being built so that goats do not enter farms.
“The MCA has abandoned the people of Ribui in favor of assisting the residents of Ruiri and Tutwa. I believe it is due to the fact that we are on the other side of the mountain.
“I’m wondering why Governor Kiraitu is letting us suffer because the fences were removed to make way for road construction. We are in danger because we are near the forest.
“We request assistance from the county government of Meru because it appears that we are pastoralists in our homes,” he said.
Another resident told Baite TV that 2022 Kalembe NOO PEU. He claimed that the MCA caused even more damage to the road while the fences were removed, and the project came to a halt.
Ezra, an elderly resident said: “My fence was destroyed by the tractors working on the road. Cows grazing along the road devoured all of my maize.
I don’t have anyone else to help me because my husband died, and when my grandchildren come over, they try to chase the cows away, but they always return. I implore Kalembe to complete what he has begun or else 2022 NOO PEU.
The MCA should have put up beacons so we could know the end of the raod. We’re still fighting over the boundaries amongst ourseleves, and we’re urging him to be accompanied by a surveyor.
The boundaries will guid us when building fences and keep cows from grazing in our fields.”
