Military aircraft crashes at Eremet area in Oltinga

An Mi 171e Air Force Helicopter has crashed at the Eremet area in Oltinga, Kajiado West sub-county.

Kenya Defense Forces spokesperson Zipporah Kioko said in a statement that the helicopter was on a training mission when it went down and burst into flames.


The incident happened at around 0900hrs. this morning in an area called Eremet, between Oltinga and Ol Tepesi, along the Magadi road between the Kiserian Magadi road.

The incident happened five kilometers from the main road, according eyewitness.

According to eyewitnesses, unconfirmed reports states that the chopper had 21 occupants and before it came down and burnt into ashes, they saw the chopper wobbling.

It wobbled for more than 10 minutes as the eyewitness were able to take videos of the chopper as it was wobbling before it came down and burnt into ashes.

Four occupants were able to escape unhurt and six have been rescued with serious injuries.

The aircraft had 21 occupants and it was on a training mission.

So far the area has already been condoled 5 kilometers on the right, on the left, and across. People have been dispersed.
