Obama cancels his birthday party after criticism

The former president of the USA will finally celebrate his 60th birthday in a close circle due to the “Delta variant”

After receiving a lot of criticism for planning to celebrate his 60th birthday with a big open-air party, former US President Barack Obama has  finally decided that, due to the spread of the Delta variant , he will only accept a few relatives and friends this weekend.

“This open-air event was organized months ago, based on the instructions of the health services and with protection measures for Covid-19,” explained its spokeswoman, Hannah Hankins. “Due to the new spread of the Delta variant last week, President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly reduce the number of guests, only to family and close friends,” he added.

Obama, now in his 60s , was planning to celebrate his birthday at Martha Vingyard Island, Massachusetts, this weekend, accompanied by many guests, but all of whom would have been vaccinated.and would have been tested. The celebration would take place in the countryside, in order to follow the instructions of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Among the guests were George Clooney, Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey, according to the Washington Post.

Although health rules would be followed, the holiday was widely criticized, especially by Republicans. Ohio-based Jim Jordan wrote on Twitter that “if it was President Trump’s birthday party,” Democrats would be talking about “a dangerous overlay event .”

“Are there any exceptions to the celebrations in which the rich and famous liberals participate?” asked party leader Rona McDaniel.

The Trump administration has been criticized many times for organizing events in the White House or in ministries where attendees did not wear masks, but also for the former president’s campaign rallies in the midst of the pandemic and before the Covid-19 vaccinations began. . An event in honor of Amy Coney Barrett, which Trump appointed to the Supreme Court, is believed to have infected about 12 people, including the president himself.

President Joe Biden, who was Obama’s vice president, would not attend the birthday party but sent him his wishes via Twitter. “Happy birthday, Barack Obama. “I am proud to say that you are a brother and a friend – and I am grateful for your selfless service in this country,” he wrote.

Last week, U.S. health authorities again recommended the use of the mask indoors, even for those vaccinated, due to the increase in Covid-19 cases.
