Passengers uninjured after head-on collision involving bus

The passengers were safely evacuated from the bus and it was driven to the police station while the car was towed.

No serious injures were reported after a car collided head-on with a bus with passengers inside in Meru County.

An eyewitness said the crash happened along Meru – Nanyuki highway in Meru town.

The bus was en route to Maua when the driver of another car traveling in the opposite direction crossed the center line and collided head-on with a bus.

The passengers were safely evacuated from the bus and it was driven to the police station while the car was towed.

In Tharaka Nithi County, one person died after the vehicle he was travelling in rolled multiple times along Meru-Chuka Road near the Nithi Bridge.

The said the driver was heading to Chuka at the time when he lost control, said an eyewitness.

“I was on my way to Chuka when I narrowly avoided colliding with it. At the same time, I saw another vehicle behind me avoiding the head-on collision. As passengers were thrown out of the car, it rolled several times,” said an eyewitness.

“I parked my motorcycle and returned to the scene, where I encountered people who were bleeding. Those who were able to speak with me asked for my phone so they could contact their families,” said an eyewitness.

He said that when every vehicle he stopped took off, he decided to block traffic.

“A good samaritan assisted me in pulling out the passengers who had been left inside the vehicle,” he said.

He said one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
