While we try to keep ourselves safe and healthy, there is still a desire to be one with nature. Staying inside is not for everyone. In light of this, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is planning virtual tours to bring the outdoors to you.

The conservancy in Laikipia County is taking a unique approach to tourism. They plan to hold virtual classrooms to educate domestic and international tourists about the world’s last Northern White Rhinos. Najin and Fatu, who are 31 and 20 years old, respectively.

The cost is where the catch is. Each class will cost $100, according to Ol Pejeta (Sh10,700).

“We run a virtual classroom program during prime time. People from all over the world can come here every evening for an hour to meet the planet’s last two Northern White Rhinos.” – Richard Vigne, managing director of the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

He goes on to say that it will not be easy and that they are taking a significant risk. They are hoping that technological advances will help them, especially after losing so much money during the pandemic waves.

“We intend to capitalize on that opportunity, but the development of technology to increase revenue streams is not something we can simply turn on. Not least because tourism opportunities have vanished.
