Police launch manhunt for nurse after attempted rape on Form Four Student

Police in Kilungu sub-county, Makueni are searching for a nurse at Kikoko Mission Hospital who is suspected of sexually abusing female patients, including a Precious Blood Kilungu school student who was hospitalized.

A nurse is alleged to have tried to sexually assault a Form Four student who was hospitalized with other students on September 23, 2021. The nurse reportedly disappeared after realizing that police were looking for him, the student’s mother reported.

Kilungu sub-county police commander Anthony Nderitu said the nurse allegedly tried to undress the girl at midnight while she was in the mission hospital ward. However, the 17-year-old girl rang the bell in the wardroom where the other six students were lying and then the nurse escaped.

As of yesterday, he had not been arrested.

“It’s not that we don’t do anything. Criminal investigation officers are searching for the suspect who is in hiding. Hospital officials fired him before the incident was reported to us. This has made it difficult to arrest him. However, we have taken action, ” said Nderitu.

He revealed that schools and hospitals were late in reporting the incident until the girl’s mother reported it on October 22.

The girl’s mother blamed hospital and school administrators for not reporting the incident saying she was called to pick up her daughter and found her in the hospital ward.

She said he was informed of an attempted rape on her daughter by her sister who phoned her after talking to the dormitory administrator at the school.

“Later, my daughter told me the whole story that the nurse had given her his phone number after his efforts failed,” she said.
