Residents of Athwana community in Meru County took justice into their own hands after a woman reportedly slept with underage boys in their area.
According to the assistant chief, she had a reputation for jumping from one romantic relationship with boys to the next when financially motivated.
“Members of the neighborhood are ecstatic because young boys who had previously dropped out of school would now be able to resume their studies,” said Manyara, the assistant chief.
“She has returned home after being disciplined by members of the community. Her husband welcomed her, and we have assigned a group of women to advise her on how to carry herself as a woman,” said Manyara, the assistant chief.
A resident said she was surprised because the suspect was elderly and of the Guantai age group.

“The Guantai age group is marrying off their daughters, but the incident has shocked us, and we wonder who will marry them now that young boys are having romantic relationships with old women,” said the resident.
According to the suspect’s mother, she attempted to persuade her to return to her home after she had been gone for days, but she was adamant.
“Her husband tried to bring her back, but she refused and enlisted the help of thugs to attack him on the road. I agree with her age group’s disciplinary actions,” said the suspect’s mother.
Another resident said a woman the suspect’s age should be focused on her family and moral principles.
“I brought a rope with me to tie her up so that her age group could reprimand her, which I believe would teach her the respect that a woman should command,” said the resident.
Another resident, a student, hailed the disciplinary actions taken by the members of the community on the suspect.
“I wonder who will marry us after we complete our education because the suspect who is old enough to be my mother is having romantic relationships with boys,” said the student.
The student urged the suspect’s husband to take care of her because according to her, it is the reason she abandoned him.
