Sarmiento said in a statement that it tried to warn residents of the danger, but they considered her reaction excessive and did not heed her warnings.
An engineer, who tried to investigate the causes of the deadly catastrophic fall of the apartment building last Tuesday, said that the roof of the pool may have fallen from the weight of the huge volumes of water that were on the spot, as a result of which the whole building was swept away.
The death toll has risen in the last few hours to 18 – including two children aged four and 10 – while 145 are still missing . “It’s really painful,” said Miami Mayor Daniela Levin Kava. “Two more bodies of young children have been found . ““Any loss of life not due to natural causes is a tragedy, but the burden of watching two little ones lose their lives is unbearable.”
Operations to locate and rescue the victims in the area continue unabated with the help of Israeli rescue teams, while the death toll is estimated to increase in the coming days. At the same time, engineers are examining whether the version that the pool was the main cause of the accident is correct, with the dead counting dozens so far.
