Suspect arrested after stealing man's phone, Sh5200 with fake gun

Athman Karim Kori, 36, will be a guest of the state for the weekend after he was arrested selling a mobile phone that he, together with an accomplice, had stolen one hour earlier in Muranga town.

Athman and his counterpart had accosted Harrison Kuria within Mumbi Estate as he was walking home. The two brandished a toy pistol and held it against Kuria as they went for his pockets.

They made away with his mobile phone and Sh5200 in cash. An hour later, one of the thugs approached a shop attendant in the town to sell the phone.

On sighting the phone, the shop attendant who had earlier heard of Kuria’s predicament immediately recognized it.He tricked the seller to wait for him as he went to fetch money but in turn, he informed Kuria and also alerted police officers based at Muranga police station.

On arrival, the officers pounced on the suspect and upon searching him, recovered a toy pistol. Efforts to trace his accomplice are still ongoing. He will be arraigned in court on Monday to answer to charges of robbery with violence.
