ATHING’A: Continuing its drive against bhang dealings and to root out the menace of drugs, Sub chief and njuri ncheke elders nabbed two notorious bhang peddlers from Athing’a in Tigania of Meru county and launched a Bhang destruction drive in Muthara.

As per details, the sub-chief woke up at 5:30 a.m. to join the Njuri Ncheke elders in their hunt for bhang peddlers. They had scheduled a meeting prior to the search to go over the specifics of how it would be carried out and potential hideouts.

“We were able to apprehend three bhang peddlers, who provided us with a list of 26 names of their suppliers and customers. We will not sleep while our children slowly destroy their lives,” said Christine Kananu, sub-chief at athing’a sub-location.

“The youth claim that selling bhang will make them wealthy, but they should do it somewhere else. Kiriche is the name of one of the peddlers we apprehended. I’ve caught him on the wrong side of the law several times.

“The former chief Nkunya had apprehended the other, known as Kolombo, on multiple occasions.

“I’ve warned Kiriche on numerous occasions to stop dealing in bhang. To eliminate bhang in the area, we have the support of the Nyumba Kumi, Njuri Ncheke, and the government. I encourage young people to get involved in other legal activities,” she said.

According to Julius Richir, an elder of njuri ncheke, one of the bhang peddlers known as Kiriche admitted to peddling bhang and said he sources it from Isiolo and Kianjai.

Kiriche, one of the peddlers, said: “I’m going to stop taking and selling marijuana. It’s been three months since I’ve stopped selling it. I have a motorcycle that I intend to use for legal purposes.”

The other peddler told BaiteTv that he stopped selling bhang more than a year ago due to low sales. He claimed that the Njuri ncheke elders did not found any evidence at his house.
