Two Turkish soldiers were killed and four others wounded Friday afternoon when a roadside bomb exploded in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, a non-governmental organization said.

The explosion hit the Turkish military vehicles near Marat Misrin, in northern Idlib, clarified the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The attack came after members of a Turkish-backed rebel group captured a rival fighter, the UK-based NGO, which has a wide network of sources in the war-torn country, added.

At least six Turkish soldiers have been killed in the past 35 days in northern Syria.

Since 2018, the Turkish Armed Forces and adjoining guerrillas have been occupying areas in the northern part of Aleppo, as part of a large-scale operation in Ankara against Kurdish separatist fighters in Syria.

Turkey is a protective force of various rebel organizations in Aleppo and Idlib.

The extremely complex war in Syria, which erupted in 2011 sparking the crackdown on democratization protests, has claimed the lives of some half a million people and turned millions more into internally displaced persons or refugees.
