THE Kenyan government has no plans to ban travelers from countries affected by the new Covid-19 virus Omicron.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday in Kisii County, Health Ministry Secretary Susan Mochache said the government was conducting inspections at all border areas where all people were being tested to see if they had been vaccinated.
“Although it has been confirmed that a new strain of the Covid-19 virus has been discovered in South Africa, the government has no plans to prevent people from that country and other neighboring nations from entering Kenya. What the government is doing is making sure that every foreigner entering the border area gets vaccinated, ”Ms Mochache said.
The secretary urged Kenyans to continue to come forward for vaccinations and to adhere to the government’s guidelines for preventing coronary transmission. ”Kenyans continue to receive immunizations. The Omicron virus broke out in South Africa earlier this November before spreading to neighboring southern African countries such as Namibia, Botswana and Eswati.
Scientists say the virus is spreading faster than the Delta virus discovered in India earlier this year.
