Special Funds and Accounts Committee chaired by Hon. Kathuri Murungi on May 24 inspected NG – CDF projects in Wundanyi Constituency, Taita Taveta County.
The Committee visited the construction of a male ward at Mbale Health Centre at the cost Ksh. 1,300,000 and the construction of a dormitory and a kitchen at . Agatha Girls School, Ngoloki at the cost Ksh. 6,800,000.While undertaking the inspection visit to Mbale, Members noted with concern that despite the completion of the ward in Mbale Health Center the facility was still not in use.
At St.Agatha Girls School, Members of the Committee commended the efforts by the School Board and the Principal to increase the number of dormitories and modernise the facilities.
Wundanyi Constituency fund manager Mr. Henry Wanjiku was tasked to ensure that all NG-CDF funded projects that are co-founded with the County Government should be clearly branded and have clear signage.
During the inspection visits, Members of the Committee observed that the slow implementation of projects was occasioned by the late disbursement of funds by the NG- CDF Board and the National Treasury.
The Special Funds and Accounts Committee had previously examined the audited financial statements for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund for the twenty-six (26) Constituencies in the Coast Region.
It was after then that the Committee resolved to undertake inspection visits to various projects in Taita Taveta County to verify information as contained in the reports of the Auditor-General and responses submitted by the Fund Account Managers.
The Committee is expected to continue with inspection visits in Taveta Constituency in the coming days.
Members present were Hon. Dennitah Ghati, Hon. Erastus Kivasu, Hon. Jared Okelo, Hon. Faith Gitau, Hon. Mark Lomunokol and they were accompanied by representatives from the National Government Constituency Development Fund Board.
