Hon. Murega: Forget parties, North Imenti politics will be 'issue based'

County Assembly of Meru deputy speaker Hon. Elias Murega has said that North Imenti politics will be issue-based this time round. He said North Imenti politics will be determined by the issues that are brought forward that can assist residents of North Imenti.

In an interview with a Tv station, Hon. Murega said North Imenti residents hold the votes that will determine who the next member of parliament will be. He said aspirants should not expect to be voted for simply because the president will show up and sell his preferred candidate to the people.

“They should also not anticipate situations in which an aspirant Governor will be the one to determine the next North Imenti Mp. This time, as the votes are counted, North Imenti residents will be counting them as well. They will also secure the votes if they are to be stolen, Hon. Murega said.

According to Hon. Murega, politics of being threatened by aspirants who have more money than others or who are of a certain race was all propaganda.

Hon. Murega urged leaders of Mt Kenya and Mt Kenya East to unite and speak with one voice so they could bargain for people.

“Many political parties can’t say what they stand for when asked. An example was the BUS party which they can’t say what it stood for. The same can be said for the PNU party. What they are interested in is the party leader. Like in the UDA, it is Dp Ruto, ODM is Raila Odinga, PNU is Peter Munya, and an Upcoming party rumored to be owned by Kiraitu Murungi,” Hon. Murega said.

Hon. Murega, said the majority of political parties are founded by the owners. He said that at the moment, no Wananchi led party has been formed or is owned by citizens.

“Politicians join political parties knowing who owns them. We need a leader to unite us as Mt Kenya so that we can better bargain for our people, regardless of which party we are in,” Hon. Murega said.

According to Hon. Murega, leaders cannot bargain for their people with political parties because if one party leader does not like another, leaders will shift to the other. He said leaders must work together regardless of political party affiliations.
