Islamic State claims responsibility for Saturday night bombing of a restaurant with a dead body

The group said its members detonated an explosive device at a restaurant where “members and spies of the Ugandan crusader government were gathering.”

The Islamic State jihadist group has claimed responsibility for a bomb blast that killed a young woman Saturday night in the Ugandan capital, Kampala , following a statement posted on the Telegram platform Sunday.

The group said its members detonated an explosive device at a restaurant where “members and spies of the Ugandan crusader government were gathering.”

Ugandan police, who said the bomb had exploded inside a restaurant serving pork in a suburb of the capital, said it was an act of “internal terrorism”. He spoke of a dead woman and several wounded .

The country of East Africa has been affected in recent years by the activities of various jihadist organizations.

According to police spokesman Fred Enanga , the alleged perpetrators arrived at around 20:30 (local time and Greek time) on Saturday at a popular restaurant in the suburb of Komamboga, in the northern part of the capital, and placed a plastic bag under a table.

They detonated the bomb “shortly after leaving” the restaurant, about half an hour after their arrival. According to Mr. Enanga, the “improvised” mechanism contained nails and metal fragments.

“Everything shows that this is an act of internal terrorism,” the spokesman added, noting that the police hope to locate the perpetrators, as they left traces .

Earlier in the day, Ugandan President Yueri Museveni also tweeted about “terrorist activity”, promising “we will find the perpetrators”. Citizens “have nothing to fear, we will end this crime as we did with others,” he added, attributing the bombing to “pigs who do not respect human life.”

The targeted restaurant is located in an area with several steakhouses. According to police, the explosion resulted in the death of a 20-year-old waitress, Emily Enginaneza . Three injured were taken to hospital, two in critical condition.

In Uganda, there is a theory of a night traffic ban to prevent the new coronavirus from spreading from 19:00, but the measure is not generally observed.

On October 8, Islamic State claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on a police station in Kauebe, not far from the site of Saturday’s attack. The United Kingdom and France immediately announced their travel instructions for Uganda, urging their citizens to be vigilant and avoid crowded public places such as restaurants, bars and hotels.

In 2010, two bombings in Kabbalah against fans watching the football World Cup final on giant screens claimed the lives of at least 76 people. The Somali group Shebab claimed responsibility for Uganda’s involvement in AMISOM, the African Union military mission in Somalia.
