With less than a week to the Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward by-elections, political parties have intensified their campaigns in the grassroots in a bid to woo voters in what seems like a face-off between Jubilee and the UDA party.
It is a homestretch for the Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward campaigns in Kiambu County ahead of the elections on the 15th of this month.
As leaders from Jubilee and UDA ran around in last-minute efforts to win over the electorates, they have called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to ensure the elections are and fair.
“If you are not a voter in a polling station, If you are not an agent of a particular candidate in a polling station, if you’re not an accredited observer in a polling station, kindly keep away,” said Kanini Kega, Member of Parliament for Kieni Constituency.
The leaders claim there are plans to disrupt the vote.
“We know of a Cabinet administrative secretary who has been collecting guns in Muthurwa market to come and disrupt the election in Kiambaa. And we want to ask the Inspector General Police, This thing is on your shoulders,” said Kimani Ichungwa, Member of Parliament Kikuyu Constituency.

“Waende kwa raia vile tunaenda kwa raia waombe kura. Polisi unawalete na hawana kura ya Kiambaa, watakausaidia namna gani,” Ndindi Nyoro,” Member of Parliament (MP) for Kiharu Constituency.
“We know that we have combed our areas and we know our numbers, but we know our competitors are planning to cause havoc. They even plan to import people from other areas,” said Kanini Kega, Member of Parliament for Kieni Constituency.
IEBC insists that it is ready to conduct the election transparently and according to the law.
“We have given instructions to the police to ensure that the super agents don’t disrupt the process and create chaos or move around with goons,” said Wafula Chebukati, Chairperson at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“No attempts to take pictures will not be entertained at the polling stations and we request voters to comply,” said IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein.

Politicians have been warned against hate speech or any attempts to fuel violence.
