Major setback for Kiraitu Murungi as tribunal stops Kiyiapi RBK party takeover

Kiraitu Murungi and other Mt Kenya East political leaders have been temporarily blocked from taking over Restore and Build Kenya party of Prof James ole Kiyiapi.

“We are meeting with other leaders to discuss the formation of a political party for the Ameru,” Kiraitu Murungi said earlier.

“As the Mt. Kenya East region, we are overjoyed that we now have our own Restore and Build Kenya party political vehicle.
It is a regional party, but we will also be visiting other parts of Kenya,” Meru Deputy Governor Titus Ntuchiu said.

The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has granted two petitioners orders restraining the new officers from assuming office until the matter is heard and determined.

Alloysius Okotch and Peter Ondeng secured the orders on Friday and were directed to serve all the parties by Monday.

The duo challenged the appointment of Watson Kimathi, Rael Murungi, Joseph Kipwambok, Njagi M’Muga, Eunice Karema, Emilio Mureithi Kathuri, Ruth Nkoroi, Pamela Gitobu, Mutuma Dennis, Joseph Mulongo, and Zeyruq Ahmed Sheik as RBK officials.

There were complaints that the majority of the officials are from Kiraitu Murungi’s community, and others are his employees.

MCA Abogeta West Hon. DMK Kiogora had said that the political party was at its formative stage.

He had urged his allies to hold their horses so they could acquire the party, do a rebranding and so many other things that were supposed to follow

“It means that the journalists were able to investigate and uncover what we’ve done so far. As allies of Speaker Justin Muturi, Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, Embu Governor Martin Wambora, and Tharaka Nithi Governor Martin Wambora, we have acquired the RBK party from Ole Kiyiapi and his allies,” Hon. Kiogora said.

“Ole Kiyiapi used the party in 2013 to run for the presidency. This political party is at its formative stage and I’d like to urge our friends to hold their horses so we could acquire the party, do rebranding and so many other things that are supposed to follow,” Hon. Kiogora said.

MCA Abothuguchi Hon. Ayub Bundi Solomon said Hon. Kiogora should have considered the many people who voted for him before deciding to include his sister as a party official.

“I heard rumors that the RBK party would be rebranded. Kimathi, Governor Kiraitu’s advisor, is one of the five of the total six-party officials who come from the same community. Mugambi Imanyara is the second official,” Hon. Ayub Bundi said.

“Mugambi Imanyara and Kimathi homes are about a 20-minute walk apart. The third official is the DMK’s sister. The fourth official is Raeli Murungi, and the fifth official is Lawyer Kibanga, whose home is about a 20-minute walk away from the other officials,” Hon. Ayub Bundi said.

Hon. Ayub Bundi said that when we refer to officials from coming from the same community, he meant the upper Abogeta.

He said Gideon Kimathi is the person who was going around popularizing the party claiming to be for the people of Meru.

“Makarina is a person living with a disability. When I came across him, I inquired as to why he was not included as an official in the party to represent people with disabilities. I’m not sure where the Ksh 10 million allocation for people with disabilities that we approved in the Meru County Assembly is,” Hon. Ayub Bundi said.

“Makarina was expected to be a member of the party. Others who have spoken a lot about the party include Hon. Karinga, but they are not members,” Hon. Ayub Bundi said.

Hon. Ayub Bundi said that the people of Meru should not be informed about the party because the party has already demonstrated its intentions.

The decision by the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal to halt the transfer of party ownership is a huge setback for Kiraitu Murungi and his MCAs, who had high hopes of using the party.
