Mudavadi: I cautioned BBI team against ombudsman

I cautioned the BBI team against ombudsman

ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi has claimed that the BBI team’s refusal to accept criticism was a major factor in the initiative’s failure.

During a Sunday church service at Friends Church on Ngong Road, Musalia said the leaders involved refused to listen to one another and turned into a “one-man choir.”

“I had warned of some clauses during the launch of BBI one on November 27, 2019, at the Bomas of Kenya, which could hinder it from going far. They never listened,” he said.

“I cautioned and I said that if you want to make the Executive appoint an ombudsman to the courts you will be interfering with the independence of the courts. You are interfering with the basic structure and the principles of the Constitution,” Mudavadi said.

“What I said in Bomas two years ago was what the judges pronounced in their judgment. The issue of the independence of institutions is paramount and must be handled carefully,” he said.

As a result, according to Mudavadi, a lot of time and resources have been squandered in the failed process that began three years ago.

“Learn from the court ruling that when you do not listen to each other, when leaders refuse to listen to each other when they make themselves a one-man choir when leaders just decide that it’s their choir that swill sing and no one else should be listened to the consequences are very grave,” he said.

“Unless everyone is involved, it will be a political elite document and not one that addresses challenges facing mwananchi,” he added.
