Melida Auma, the mother to the later Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, has officially announced her intentions to seek the Homa Bay Town West MCA seat on a United Democratic Alliance(UDA) ticket.

Melinda who is a resident of Homabay county came to the limelight after his daughter was murdered in a brutal incident. The murder of Sharon was linked to Migoro Governor Okoth Obado who is a member of ODM.

Auma says that she wants to try her lack in the political world so as to give her children and grandchildren a better life.

“I would have wanted ODM, but it is very difficult to get a ticket there. Furthermore, leaders from ODM who had vowed to stand with us before Sharon’s burial abandoned us immediately we lowered her body into the grave,” she noted.

Auma accused ODM of failing to offer the support they promised to her family after the miserable death of her daughter.

“I decided to try the MCA seat because I want a better life for my children and grandchildren. It is tough, but I will try,” she continued.

“These people were only after political mileage. They forgot us. They stopped picking our calls as soon as we interred our daughter’s remains,” Mrs Auma said.

Auma will have to do more on the ground because Homabay is an area that more than 90% support the ODM party.
