IGEMBE — An occupant of a water tank lorry was killed and another person was injured in a rollover accident Monday afternoon in Meru County.

The crash happened in Malerene in Kaero. According to an eyewitness, when the driver lost control, the tanker lorry hit a stone and rolled over a hillside.
“We heard a disturbing sound of a vehicle approaching while working. When we got a closer look, we noticed a lorry speeding towards us,” said Peter Kobia, an eyewitness.

“The lorry hit a stone, flew high and rolled multiple times after two minutes. We ran for our dear lives as it approached us, and the lorry came to a halt in a matter of seconds.

“We rushed to the scene and found out that one of the lorry’s two occupants had died. The other was critically injured and was lying on his stomach. We flipped him over and laid him on his back.

“We asked our supervisor to contact a person in Laare who was supposed to contact Somalis to come and rush the victim to the hospital.

“The water tanker had brought water to be spilled over marram on a road that is being built,” he said.
