The caucus of Mount Kenya politicians say they will not abandon the push to have many political parties in the region arguing any other push to bundle others into one political outfit is dictatorial.
According to the politicians, the move will not create this disunity but strengthen democracy.
However, they argue rules of engagement must be agreed upon by all parties concerned.
Some politicians from the mount Kenya region now say they will march on with their push to have the mountain speak in one voice but allow different political outfits to sell their ideas.
However they hit out Deputy President William Ruto for insisting the only vehicle for 2022 would be one.
In a meeting in the Naivasha that brought together different political players representing various political parties, the leaders said their unity was predicated in their diversity vowing not to follow anyone bundling them into one political vehicle blindly.
Sources in the morning meeting say the leaders faulted the messaging by Deputy President William Ruto and his lieutenants that the United Democratic Alliance was the only vehicle of choice for the mountain saying it would in the long run fall into the same trap as the Jubilee party, where decisions are dictatorial.
“Monolithic parties become oppressive,” said NARC Kenya leader Matha Karua
The meeting now brings in more players representing different political parties and starting the process of coming up with a structure of rules of engagement.
They now seek to form a larger political movement that will also see other smaller political parties in other counties incorporated.
“We also have three or four priority issues. One of the priority issues being defending democracy and multi-partysim,” said Martha Karua.
The politicians also vowed to push for the unity of the mountain. They also seek to lock the over 8 million votes of the region shared amongst their parties hoping to have talks with any aspirant keen on the voting block.
“The blueprint we come out with will be presented, not only two presidential candidates, but even to other agencies that may have a bearing. If it is security, we have security agencies,” said Matha Karua.
“The interest of the mountain are paramount to ourselves as we think as Kenyans,” said Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.
“Whenever Mount Kenya meets, great things happen,” said TSP party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri,” said TSP party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri.
“The unity of Mount Kenya does not depend on this disunity of the rest of the country,” said Veteran politician Koigi Wa Mwere.
“Leaders of Mount Kenya region must continue to remain upon apologetic about championing our interests, championing our region and championing our Unity,” said Former MP TETU Ndung’u Gethenji.
The choice of Martha Karua as the spokesperson, a position viewed as rivaling National Assembly speake Justin Muruti who was coronated as the region spokesperson and has given meetings organized by this team a wide berth.
Interior CS Karanja Kibicho has also thrown his weight behind those seeking to unite Mount Kenya
