14-year-old Boy who was set ablaze by his brothers dies

Must read

Remember the sad case we reported about a 14-year-old boy who was doused in petrol and set ablaze by his elder brothers?

The boy has since succumbed to the burn injuries early today morning, while undergoing treatment at Mandera County Teaching and Referral hospital.

The 14-year-old boy had put up a brave fight for his life, but towards 2am this morning he gave up and went to be with the Lord.

His distraught father Abdullah Hassan, who couldn’t come to terms with the loss of his beloved son, shed tears of pain and anguish as he reported his death to our officers.

The boy, a class seven pupil at a local primary school in Mandera was set ablaze by his elder brothers who feared that he might testify against one of them, accused of stealing a mobile phone.

Police officers had rushed to their house as it went up in flames the previous day and rescued the boy, who had sustained serious burns.

Detectives have however arrested the heartless brothers Ibrahim Ahmed Shaur, 20 and Yusuf Ahmed Shaur, 17 who had gone into hiding following the incident.

They are currently guests of the State at Mandera Police station being processed for the offence of Murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code.

The boy’s death has also left officers based at the station engulfed in a sombre mood, since they were looking forward to his recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Abdullah Hassan following the painful loss,” DCI said

We hope that the arrest of the two suspects will bring some semblance of justice to the family and friends of the young boy.
