The twin-engine transport aircraft carried a group of paratroopers
At least 16 people have been killed and seven others injured in a L-410 plane crash near a town in the Tatarstan region, RIA Novosti reported, citing a source in Russia’s emergency services.
The plane was carrying a group of paratroopers, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced, according to the TASS news agency.
The plane that crashed was a Let L-410 Turbolet , which is a twin-engine short-haul transport aircraft.
Russian aviation safety standards have improved in recent years, but accidents, especially with old planes in remote areas, are not uncommon.
An Antonov An-26 transport plane crashed in the Russian Far East last month, killing six people. The 28 occupants of a twin-engine Antonov An-26 were also killed when it crashed in Kamchatka in July.
