Following an eight-hour siege at the home of Assistant Inspector General of Police King’ori Mwangi, four people have been charged with theft.
The suspects, Nahashon Theuri, Eric Omondi, Roy Mutethia, and Jane Njoki, appeared in Nyeri on Wednesday before Principal Magistrate Mathias Okuche and denied the charges.

They were charged with breaking and entering Mr Mwangi’s Pembe Tatu home on August 30 at 2 a.m., along with others who were not present in court.
After a 10-hour manhunt, the three men were apprehended in the Majengo slums of Nyeri town.

Njoki, on the other hand, was apprehended at the home of the police chief, where she worked as a caretaker.
According to state prosecutor Nelly Waweru, the suspects stole Sh1.5 million in household goods.
In a separate charge, Omondi was accused of stealing an Ampex woofer, a Sony home theater system, a Samsung 55-inch television set, a DVD player, a gas cylinder, a pair of safari boots, and a six-by-four mattress from Mr Mwangi.

He was also accused of stealing Titus Gatemi’s motorcycle on August 7 in Ruring’u town.
The motorcycle, worth Sh110,000, is thought to have been used in the robbery.
“We decided to institute the charge against him after the owner of the motorcycle, Mr Gatemi, presented an Occurrence Book (OB) number which showed that it was missing. We believe that it was used in the theft,” said Waweru.

Theuri was also charged with theft and possessing a shotgun without a firearms license.
He is accused of stealing Mr Mwangi’s gun, a magazine containing seven rounds of nine millimetre ammunition, two sellers, and a bellot buckshot cartridge.

Njoki was also charged with failing to prevent a felony from occurring.
Except for Ms Njoki, who was granted a Sh100,000 bond with the option of a Sh50,000 cash bail, the suspects were released on Sh500,000 bonds.
On September 23, the case will be mentioned.
