Residents of Rikiau-Igembe benefit from a donor-funded water project that was initiated a long time ago.
However, according to the residents, their leader later promised to drill a borehole for them at the same site of the donor-funded water project resulted in feuds between the leader and the donor leaving them at a crossfire.
According to one of the locals, their leader would have preferred to use one of the many underutilized public lands rather than interfering with the donor-funded water project site.
“We demand to know why the MCA decided not to drill another borehole that he had promised on the underutilized public lands.
There is no water from Kalimbene to Njia, so we have no choice but to fetch water from the same spot where cows drink.
When it rains, the cows drink from rivers. We have to fight for water with cows during the dry season. The water-storage concrete tank is also leaking and needs to be fixed.
We invite governor Kiraitu to Rikiau to see the problems we’re facing, especially the lack of water. We are unable to express our concerns while the governor is in his office,” said the resident.
