40-year-old woman who killed husband released

Must read

Valerie Bako, the 40-year-old woman who was tried for killing her violent husband and promoter, was sentenced to a “symbolic” four-year prison sentence, three of which were suspended. As she has already been remanded in custody for a year, Baku will be released from court.

The Court of Appeal of Saόνne-et-Loire in eastern France showed more leniency to the woman than the prosecutor had requested: earlier today, calling her the “victim” of her tyrannical husband, who raped, beat and extradited her for years. The prosecutor had proposed that she be sentenced to five years in prison, four of which were suspended.

Bako was on trial for killing her ex-father and then her husband, Daniel Polet, 61, with a bullet in the head on March 13, 2016.

The prosecutor estimated that justice should be done but without taking the woman back to prison as her four children “need her”.
