A pregnant teacher has been arrested for seducing a 15-year-old student in Miami , another addition to the long list of sexual abuse cases in US high schools.
Harry Calvi, 41, was released on bail last Saturday, two days after her arrest. According to the Daily Mail , she is accused of having sex with the teenage boy last year, after the two “came close” to the John I. Smith K-8 Center school in the city.
Calvi sent obscene photos to the teenager via WhatsApp during the time their ill relationship lasted and allegedly gave him one of her credit cards. There is also information that she took him to a party with her, and presented him as her nephew.
According to the British newspaper, the police investigation started because of some videos that the minor allegedly showed to his friends and depicted sexual acts between him and the teacher. Authorities confiscated the young man’s mobile phone and found inside the photos that the 41-year-old had sent him via WhatsApp.
It is not yet clear whether Calvi is married, or whether authorities believe the 15-year-old is the father of the pregnant child. She spoke about her pregnancy to the police who arrested her last week, according to CBS Miami .
Calvi is facing serious legal implications for her actions. A child is not legally competent to give consent, even though he may say “okay”. The responsibility lies with the adult, “ said Ray Valdes, a spokesman for the Florida Police Department. The age of consent in the state is 18 years.
Calvi was charged with seduction, sending harmful material to a minor by electronic means and carrying weapons at school.
