A man holding a knife was arrested outside St. Peter’s Basilica as he threatened tourists and spat on anyone in front of him.
According to Italian media, the 46-year-old, who is said to be of French origin, shouted “I will kill you all”, threatening them with a kitchen knife. Police found eight more knives in the backpack he was carrying.
The motives of the attack have not been clarified. The newspaper Il Messaggero reported that the suspect will undergo a psychiatric examination.
The 46-year-old terrorized tourists and passers-by and even went so far as to press the knife he was holding in the face of a woman sitting in a restaurant.
