The bodies of six men were found hanging from a bridge in the Mexican city of Sakatekas as two of the most powerful drug cartels clash to control trafficking routes in the area.
The half-naked bodies were found in the early morning hours, clarified the same source, who asked not to be named because she did not have the explicit approval of her service to speak to the media.
Mexican newspapers reported earlier on the macabre finding.
In Sakatekas, the capital of the homonymous state, the violence of organized crime gangs is a scourge. In recent months, the Sinaloa cartel and rival Nea Genia’s Jalisco cartel have been embroiled in a conflict over control of strategically important drug trafficking routes.
In July, 11 bodies were found hanging from bridges in the state of Sakatekas, in some cases with threatening messages. Some were left in the municipalities of Fresnio and Valparaiso, where crime rates are skyrocketing.
In the state of Sakatekas, 536 people were killed in the first half of the year, a number that increased by 57% from the corresponding period of 2020, according to official data.

The wave of gang violence has claimed the lives of more than 300,000 people since December 2006, when a so-called “war on drugs” was declared in Mexico, with the military growing inland.
