The main suspect in the disappearance of the children is their father
Spanish rescuers were searching the waters off the coast of Tenerife today, searching for a one-year-old girl after retrieving the body of a six-year-old girl – believed to be her sister – from a depth of 1,000 meters.
Their father, Thomas G., is the main suspect in the disappearance of 6-year-old Olivia and one-year-old Anna.
The two girls are considered missing since the end of April on this island in the Canary archipelago after sending a last farewell message from their father, who also disappeared, to their mother with whom he had divorced, as he told the French Agency representative of the militia.
The body of the 6-year-old girl, who authorities consider to be Olivia’s most likely, was found near the place where her father’s boat was found sailing.
The body was inside a sports bag tied with an anchor
“The corpse is at a depth of 1,000 meters in a sports bag tied with an anchor. “Another empty sports bag was found next to them”, said, according to the APE-MPE, a court announcement.
“Pending more forensic evidence, (the corpse) could almost certainly belong to Olivia G.,” the court said.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said in a Twitter post: “I can not even imagine the pain of the mother of little Anna and little Olivia, who disappeared in Tenerife, with the terrible news we have just heard.”
Today at noon (local time, 14.00 Greek time) a minute of silence will be observed in memory of the two brothers at the town hall of Tenerife.
In Spain, 39 minors have been murdered by their mother’s father or partner, current or former, since 2013, according to government data on gender-based crimes.
