The Runyenjes law courts have been temporarily closed due to the infection of 8 staff members with Covid-19.
Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu said in a statement that the court will be closed beginning today to allow for fumigation of the court’s premises.
She also instructed all infected individuals to immediately enter self-isolation for a period of seven days.
“The closure will allow all personnel at the station to test for Covid-19 and self-isolate in accordance with the Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols, as well as facilitate the required disinfection and fumigation exercise and contribute to breaking the chain of transmission,” Mwilu explained.
All urgent matters previously assigned to Runyenjes Law Courts will now be referred to Embu and Kerugoya Law Courts.
So far, the closure of law courts has been consistent, with over four courts forced to halt operations in March and April.
Karatina Law Courts in Nyeri County are the most recently closed courts.
This comes after one of the judges tested positive for coronavirus.
Employees are currently in self-isolation.
