The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security chaired by Limuru Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Mwathi today met officials of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government led by the Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Mating’i.
The CS updated the Committee on the following;
i) Insecurity in Baringo South and the efforts that have been put in place by the Government to address the challenge in light of closure schools and displaced residents in the sub county.
ii) The immigration status of Harun Aydin, a Turkish national who was recently detained by immigration officials.
iii) Status of nation’s security preparedness towards 2022 General Elections.
iv) Status of containment of insecurity in seven hotspots counties of Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet and Turkana.
The CS informed the Committee that Mr. Aydin had been given an investors work permit but he operated outside the provisions of such a permit.
As a result of this, he was deported on mutual understanding between the Government of Kenya and that of Turkey.

On the nation’s security preparedness for the 2022 General Elections, Dr. Matiang’i assured the Members that the Ministry had assembled all the relevant organs, security resources requirements and mapped out the country to identify possible trouble spots and the areas that are likely to have organized gangs.
“We have put in place mechanisms to deal with them”, said the CS.
Responding to Members questions on insecurity, the CS submitted that by and large insecurity in the seven hotspot countries had been contained with very few incidences reported in the recent past.
