Six political parties of leaders from the Mount Kenya region held a conference in Thika, to discuss their political position in the future.
Some of these parties are Moses Kuria’s Labor Party, Martha Karua’s Narc Kenya, and Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party (TSP).
Other parties are Dr Thuo Mathenge’s New Democratic Party, Jacob Gitau’s Peoples’ Party Of Kenya, and Essau Kioni’s Democratic Party of Kenya.
The conference, which included more than 40 leaders, featured former retired councilors under the umbrella of the Association Of Councilors, led by Issac Kamunge.
According to Narc Kenya chief Martha Karua, there is a need for Mount Kenya leaders to come together and discuss and speak with one voice.
“At the moment, in every part of the country, leaders of different parties are holding rallies in order to get one direction, especially as we approach elections. Therefore, even we from Mlimani have not been left behind, ”said Ms Karua.
He said no leader from Mount Kenya had been barred from entering the summit.
He stressed that it is only after reaching an agreement that they will prepare for the big Limuru 3 conference soon.
Mr Mwangi Kiunjuri of the TSP said Mount Kenya would not discriminate and that any party was ready to hold rallies so that when they came to talk about national politics they would have one voice.
“As the people of Mount Kenya, we want to see that we are talking together to decide as a community we will support one leader in the presidential race.
Mr Moses Kuria of the Labor Party, said it was important for Mount Kenya to unite because even other areas were doing so in order to organize themselves.
“We as a community from the Central region will not accept the organization but will organize ourselves to determine which direction to follow,” said Mr Kuria.
He said a leader who wants to lead the country who will agree with their wishes will no doubt support him.
He added that more meetings will continue to be held in the country to agree on which leader will suit Kenyans as a whole.
