Members of the movement carried out 32 attacks against Pakistani military and police in August, according to the German Agency for Recording the bombings and militant attacks for which the JTB claimed responsibility.
The Pakistani military has ousted Islamist fighters from semi-autonomous tribal areas on the border with Afghanistan, once their stronghold, forcing them to cross into Afghan territory with a series of large-scale operations from 2014 onwards.
But “there are clear indications that they are regrouping and increasing their ability to launch attacks,” said Fida Khan , a security analyst.
The Pakistani military has set up a fence more than 2,500 km from the porous border with Afghanistan to make it harder for extremists to cross from one country to another and has deployed forces to prevent attacks.
“We are ready for any eventuality,” General Iftikhar Babar , a spokesman for the Pakistani military, said recently , referring to the potential impact of the Taliban’s seizure of power in Afghanistan.
