An Afghan man attacked and seriously injured a 58-year-old gardener while working in a park in Wilmersdorf, Berlin, German police announced on Sunday.
According to Deutsche Welle, the authorities say that the man allegedly attacked her because he did not like the fact that a woman was working.
The alleged perpetrator approached the woman on Saturday afternoon and spoke to her.
Then he pulled out a knife and stabbed her several times in the neck.
A 66-year-old passer-by tried to help her, but he was also attacked by the 29-year-old, and suffered serious injuries.
The Berlin prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday that the suspect had been arrested for attempted murder and assault that caused bodily harm.
According to the police, he may be suffering from a mental illness. However, the possibility that his motive stems from Islamic ideology is also being investigated.
