Just in: Waiguru Hints At Joining UDA Party

Must read

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is contemplating on ditching the Jubilee party, saying that it is going to be an uphill task to vie for her position in the same party.

On Wednesday, the governor was hosted for an interview at Citizen Tv where she said that the party has lost people’s trust due to endless party fights and that it will not be easy for her to defend her seat if the fights continue.

“The truth of the matter is that defending my seat if the polls were held today would be very difficult, and that is the truth of the matter unless something changes in Jubilee,”

“If I ran today on a Jubilee ticket and someone else ran on a different party, even if people felt I had performed, it would be hard to convince them to vote for me.”

“We need to figure out where we went wrong so we do not find ourselves in such a situation again as it affects all of us,” she said.

She also added that Jubilee has a lot of homework to do especially in Mt Kenya before it’s too late.

“Jubilee needs to look internally at its issues in order to be acceptable to the people of Mt Kenya. Jubilee has a lot of work in revamping the party and we need to do it fairly fast, revamping the party and resonating with the people and giving the party back to the people,” she said.

She said that the ruling party has a chance but that only depend on their seriousness in terms of infrastructure, resources and network.

Asked if she was contemplating on joining Deputy President’s (UDA) party, the county chief said that she was keeping her options open.

“I don’t think it’s the right time to have that conversation. I can’t say I would, I can’t say I would not. This is politics, it’s unlikely but a bit early. Let’s see what the ground looks like,” She said

“For now, I am spending time on the ground listening to what the people want. One needs to be careful to make the right decision to survive politically. I am asking my people which ‘vehicle’ to use to secure my seat, she added

Waiguru was at the forefront of supporting Building Bridges Initiatives (BBI) took a backseat after the Court Of Appeal stopped the Initiative.

A few days ago, The Kirinyaga chief hits the headlines after she posted her frustrations with EACC and their witchhunts.

“Last time I said … “on BBI let me keep quiet a bit..” immediately, EACC raided my office… Recently I said am “… introspecting on the political way forward…” and again immediately I get EACC summons complete with all the subtle threatening inflexibilities… and media alerts on an alleged payment of 52m (allocated by County Assembly – for a pending bill that was acquired in 2010, for sub division, allocation and cadastral mapping of over 17,000 acres of South Ngariama Settlement Scheme) and which EACC knows HAS NOT EVEN BEEN PAID! Is it just coincidence, witch-hunt, or the usual attempt to shape narratives for 2022 succession politics?” she posted
