Violence erupts across Kiagu as thousands rally behind Kabobo

Must read

Residents of Kiagu Ward walked out in protest over the UDA party following a petition by the South Imenti UDA Coordinator Salesio Mutuma Thuranira that saw the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) bar Milton Mwenda of Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) from running in the by-election on October 14.

Esther Wangari, a Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) supporter said that the UDA party candidate was a goon and what the people of Mt. Kenya had always been told had been revealed.

“I travelled to Kiagu Ward all the way from Nyeri to support aspirant Kabobo. When I arrived, I heard the residents saying that Kabobo loves them and is capable of working for them,” said Esther.

“The said that they planned on returning the love at the ballot on October 14, 2021,” she said.

“Residents have disagreed with the IEBC move to disqualify Kabobo from the by-elections after a few UDA individuals intervened,” said Esther.

Esther said that residents declared that no elections would be held without Kabobo being on the ballot.

Another resident said she wondered why Kabobo had been disqualified from the ballot and yet he resigned from his job.  She said that there would be no peace in Kiagu ward if his name fails to appear on the ballot.

According to another resident, Kabobo was the best candidate because he understood better the projects the late Eunice Karegi was undertaking.

“He knows the projects that are about to be completed because he was part of the team. There will be no by-elections in KiaguWard of he won’t be on the ballot,” she said.

‘We are being forced on a UDA candidate but we want our Kazi Na Pesa candidate. We believe that where there is money, there is development and where there is no money, there is no development,” she said.

Another resident said she believed in Deputy President William Ruto earlier and had vowed to vote for him in the August 9,2022 general elections. but lost faith in him when he interfered with the Kiagu Ward by election.

“I also wonder why Imenti Central MP Hon. Kirima is interfering with the By-Election,” she said.

“He should leave it to us to elect the candidate we want.  We’ve lost faith in Kirima, Mithika Linturi and the UDA officials,” she said.

She said that she loved Deputy president but he become too much.

“We plan on holding demonstrations on the election date until our candidate allowed to be on the ballot,” she said.

According claimed that since Kabobo declared his interest to run for the MCA, the government had been following up on him.

“Of all the aspirants, he is the only one being followed by the government,” he said.

“Every time Kabobo holds meeting ,it is disrupted. The UDA candidate that we are being forced on is very well known for grabbing people’s properties such land and cattle,” he said.

He said that last month, the media covered Kabobo’s papers from the IEBC with stamps on them proving that he had resigned.

“We wonder if the IEBC stamps were fake and demand to know If there are two IEBC agencies  in Kenya,” he said.

He urged IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to work with the most preferred candidate by the residents of Kiagu.
