A female student at the Laikipia University has been stabbed to death.
Gertrude Chepkoech, a first year student suffered multiple stab wounds after she was attacked by a man who is alleged to be her roommate’s boyfriend.
The man only identified as Ezra later turned the knife on himself, stabbing himself in the stomach and slit his throat in a bid to kill himself, after an angry mob wanted to lynch him.
The attacker was later rescued by police, and is in stable condition according to doctors at the Nyahururu County referral hospital .
Lucy Nakiridi, a cleaner at the private hostel, said they were alerted by screams from the girls room only to find her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
She said the man had been barred by the management of the hostel from ever setting foot on the premesis after his girlfriend accused him of allegedly forcing himself into their room.
On the fateful day the man returned only to find the deceased alone, as his girlfriend had already left for exams.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Nyahururu county referral hospital mortuary as police open a probe.
