Must read

One person was injured when a hearse dramatically overturned after the driver lost control of the wheel, flipping the coffin into the road.

The hearse overturned, smashing its windows and causing injuries to the driver and a pedestrian.

Both the driver and the pedestrian were taken to hospital, where the pedestrian is recovering from a broken leg, while the driver escaped with cuts and bruises.

An eyewitness said: The car was traveling from Meru Town to Thimangiri along the Meru-Mikunduri road to pick up the deceased’s kin.

“I encourage people to be prayerful in order to avoid being involved in accidents and live a longer life. It has not been revealed where the hearse was going to pick up the kin’s family. I urge drivers to be aware that they are carrying people’s lives.

He said that hearses drivers should keep in mind that they are carrying people who are mourning the loss of a loved one.

“They should be cautious on the roads and avoid driving at speeds that are beyond their control. Today, the driver has endangered the life of a pedestrian,” he said.

The vehicle was overspeeding, according to an eyewitness. He said that the driver appeared to have lost control while attempting to evade a number of potholes on the road.

An eyewitness said: “While driving at a high speed, the hearse driver passed me at the Kirung’a petrol station.”

He strongly advised hearse drivers to drive slowly because there is no need to rush to a funeral ceremony.

“The Meru-Mikunduri road is riddled with potholes, and I urge Kiraitu Murungi’s administration to initiate repairs,” he said.

An eyewitness said: “During the rainy season, drivers should be cautious because brakes fail on a regular basis.”

He said that drivers should consider the safety of passengers and road users.
