A Gakuru motorcycle rider was killed in a crash Saturday with another vehicle, according to the eyewitness.

An eyewitness said the crash happened on Gakuri-Maua Junction road, in Meru County.

The driver of the motorcycle was heading north and was hit by the driver of a Toyota Fielder heading South, an eyewitness said.

The motorcycle driver was thrown from the bike and suffered a broken leg, according to an eyewitness.

The motorist had a deep cut on his hand, while the motorcyclist was taken to hospital while breathing heavily where he allegedly later died, he said.

“It’s heartbreaking news for the deceased’s family, and I’d like to express my condolences to them. I am requesting that the MP’s office through KENHA install speed bumps along the Gakurine-Maua Junction road. The government should intervene, as it did when the road was tarmacked,” an eyewitness said.

According to an eyewitness, he was in another vehicle following the Toyota Fielder as they returned from a funeral.

“We arrived on the scene after noticing smoke in the distance and discovered that there had been an accident,” he said.

An eyewitness said that motorcyclists should be aware that their bodies serve as a shield. He said that they should drive at slow speeds in order to maintain control in the event of an accident.

“Motorists should not treat motorcycles as if they were animals on the road. In a recent accident, a motorist collided with a motorcyclist and fled the scene,” he said.

He said that motorists on roads had a habit of looking down on motorcyclists.
