A man was allegedly attacked by thugs armed with machetes at his home in Gikurune village in Tigania, Meru County and suffered “extensive injuries” after robbing him Sh300,000, according to his wife.

“It was around 2 a.m. when I heard a loud bhang on the door. I awoke in shock, believing that lightning had struck the house. I hurriedly picked up my child and as we rushed to the door hoping to avoid being burned inside the house, I found my husband surrounded by men,” said Agnes Nkirote.

Agnes said that one of the suspects cut her husband and she begged him to give up everything he had, but he remained silent for a while and said he had nothing.

“I pleaded with them not to cut him again. I went so far as to fall on their knees. They knocked three times on a bedside drawer lock and found money inside when it opened,” said the victim’s wife,” said Nkirote.

According to Nkirote, one of the suspects inquired how much it was, and another said he wasn’t sure of the exact figure.

“They said that it would be counted later. Before fleeing, they inflicted severe curs on my husband. I screamed for help, but I wasn’t sure they’d gotten away completely. I was afraid they’d come back to attack me,” she said.

According to the victim’s daughter, when she realized that her parents had been visited by robbers while inside her house, which is next to her parents’ house, she began screaming.

“One of the suspects threatened to break down my door and shoot me if I didn’t stop screaming. I later joined my parents after the armed t robbers completed their heist,” she said.

A leader from Tigania Central said that he heard a commotion around 2.45 a.m. but did not take it seriously because he mistook it for people fighting on the road.
