Police launch crackdown on terror inmates who escaped from prison

Must read

POLICE have launched a crackdown on three terror inmates who escaped from Kamiti prison on Monday night.

The three; Musharaf Abdalla Akhulunga famous Zarkawi or Alex or Shukri; Mohamed Ali Abikar; and Joseph Juma Odhiambo aka Yusuf, escaped from the high-security prison after breaking part of a wall.

Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) George Kinoti announced a Sh60 million reward for anyone who provided information that would help them catch the criminals.

Musharaf Abdalla Akhulunga was arrested on September 30, 2012 for trying to blow up Parliament buildings.

Mohamed Ali Abikar was arrested in 2015 for participating in plans to carry out a terrorist attack at Garissa University. Joseph Juma Odhiambo was arrested in 2019 in Bulla Hawa, Somalia on his way to join Al-Shabaab terrorists.

The Chief Commissioner of Prisons in Wycliffe Ogallo said all police stations had already been notified of the detainees.

“We are informing Kenyans that the three are dangerous criminals and should not be housed,” said Mr Ogallo.

The head of the correctional services institute urged citizens with information about the detainees to inform the police via 999112.

The Maximum Committee is one of the most heavily guarded prisons in the country. The escape of the detainees has raised questions about security at the institution.
