Robert Vicoza, 42, abducted 6-year-old Amina and 7-year-old Gianna from their home in Windsor, Pennsylvania on Sunday. With him was 36-year-old Tina Binom, also a police officer in the suspended Baltimore county.

The crashed vehicle was located Thursday by Smithburg police in western Maryland and Vikoza was found dead by gunfire.

Maryland State Police spokeswoman Elena Rousseau said Pennsylvania State Police began a search Thursday afternoon for a car that matched the description of a suspect vehicle. The vehicle was traveling south on the Ringgold Pike on the Maryland-Pennsylvania route, which was blocked by Maryland State police.

Near Smithsburg, Maryland, the vehicle veered off the road, crossed a fence and came to a standstill with police surrounding it. Authorities tried to contact the occupants of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful. When police opened the front door, they found a female driver in the front and three passengers, a man and two children in the back, all with obvious gunshot wounds.

The man, the woman and one child were found dead at the scene. A second child was taken to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, where he was pronounced dead.

Rousseau did not say whether any officers opened fire.

The five-day manhunt had started on Sunday, when his ex-wife Vikoza and mother of two girls complained to the authorities that he captured her at gunpoint and took their two daughters with him. The estranged wife initially claimed that her husband had tied her up and forced her to use drugs.

The 42-year-old former police officer and his 36-year-old suspended colleague allegedly forced a man with a gun threat to drive them to various areas in Baltimore County before releasing him.
